I’ve been wanting to write about our Yoga and Faith day in November but unsure where to begin. The days are an unusual space. They are both teaching and personal exploration so there’s much of it I want to keep to myself and see what emerges. Each of the days so far have brought a different group together becoming more reflective and spacious.
From the Yoga Sutras, I introduced the obstacles to presence and mental clarity: the antarāya (yoga sutra 1.30), how we experience their effects (YS1.31) and what we might practice to remove them (YS1.32-40). We spent the morning on the mat, focusing on the light in the cave of the heart throughout our practice:
YS1.36: viśokā vā jyotiṣmatī
In the afternoon, Rachel narrated the Christmas story. We pondered the journeys taken by the different characters and the moments of faith and of fear. The afternoon wandered far and wide with discussion from Christian and non-Christian perspectives. Questions were asked and hearts were opened. And it ripples on.
Everyone left with candles to light through Advent, an encouragement to pause and remember to find hope, peace, joy and love, whatever your faith or belief
The next Yoga, Faith and Spirituality day retreat will be in February

Another beautiful poem from Sian. I wasn’t able to attend the day, but I’m glad to receive this poem, so perfect for the season of Advent, and beyond. Thank you Sian.
I will pass on your comment to Sian. I hope you can make the February date x
