Ayurvedic Massage

What is Ayurveda? A system of medicine, originating in India over 4000 years ago. It is still relevant today, a means of reconnecting to all aspects of our life and our environment, increasing our awareness of how we impact on our health and on our planet:

Ayurveda is a way of life, a way of cooperating with Nature and living in harmony with her. Health in Ayurveda means harmony, and there is really no end to the degree of harmony you can achieve if you set yourself to the task. This method of living emphasises prevention over cure, without neglecting cure. Some complain that Ayurveda works slowly, but slowness is often part of the remedy, especially today when many of us suffer from the disease of haste. Ayurveda balances and rejuvenates an organism, reducing its susceptibility and empowering its immunity to prevent new disease from developing.

Dr Robert E Svoboda: Prakruti, Your Ayurvedic Constitution

Ayurveda is a sister philosophy of yoga. Yoga is concerned mainly with the spirit whereas Ayurveda is concerned mainly with the physical body. The combination of Yoga and Ayurvedic massage is powerful and enriching. Ayurveda also includes the use of nutrition, herbs, oils and other healing modalities of lifestyle choices to purify and rejuvenate the person.

Ayurvedic massage considers the client’s individual constitution to choose techniques to encourage them to return to their healthiest balanced state. The massage includes the use of herb-infused oils and techniques to stimulate, pacify or balance the receiver’s unique combination of energetic forces or doshas. It also includes attention to the body’s system of marma points or marmani. These acupressure points are vulnerable or sensitive zones connected to the physiological and energetic systems of the body.
