Restorative Yoga Class with a Fatigue Focus

First class – Wednesday, 23 October 2019

  • To include gentle yoga practice and meditation
  • Monthly class on Wednesday afternoon, 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm
  • £10 per class (concession rate available)
  • Location: The Loft, Yanley Court (stair access only)

This is a new yoga class that is suitable for people who are living with fatigue. This will mean different things to different people. Fatigue can have different beginning points:

  • sleepless nights due to being a carer – of someone who depends on you, for example young children, unwell partner
  • chronic stress and/or anxiety
  • hormonal imbalance including the menopause or thyroid issues
  • chronic insomnia
  • illness related – from the illness itself, from the treatment of the illness, recovering from the illness
  • chronic pain
  • ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Post traumatic stress disorder

Levels of fatigue vary greatly. Some people manage fatigue by recovering on every day off others have to live their whole life around managing their fatigue. I am commonly told by people with fatigue that the common response from friends and family is ‘oh yes, I’m tired too’. Tiredness tends to be cured by a bit of extra sleep. Fatigue does not. You do not need to have a diagnosis of fatigue to come along. In fact many people hate the label but some find it helpful. It is certainly a catch-all word. If you can relate to the words written here you are welcome to come to the class.

I feel a monthly class is sustainable. People with fatigue in an acute phase find a weekly commitment stressful and sometimes will just feel to unwell to attend. As well as practice there is an opportunity to stay for tea and an opportunity to have a chat. This is not a therapy space as such but can be viewed as therapeutic. An informal support group where ideas are discussed or we just share a cup of tea.

  1. Morning,

I would be interested in this class. I’m hoping to (finally) sort my timetable today so will confirm.
    Great idea btw!

    Have a lovely day x

  2. Hi Yvonne, I hope you are well. This sounds so lovely. I would really like to try it. The first one works for me as it falls in the week I’m not working at Yanley. Will they always be 4 weekly? Are these pay as you go?

    Thank you, Sarah. Xxx
